Aerial for Mobil Phone

Capsonic (formerly known as Spitfire), the US firm of consulting engineers, is working on innovative injection moulding solutions for the next generation of mobile global phones, which can receive satellite signals directly from space.

CD/MD-Player

In various CD/MD players for stationary hi-fi equipment, Sony uses moving magnets instead of the usual rollers.

Cell-phone Connector
Cell phones require many different internal and external connection elements with minute dimensions and a very fine structure.

Connector
The connector is used to link two circuit boards in a mobile telephone. The connection is established by the simple expedient of securing the connector between the circuit carriers.

Dental Burr Caddy

A holder for dental drill heads is now being produced from Vectra® liquid crystal polymer instead of steel. This decision allowed the US manufacturer American Dental was able to achieve significant savings in material costs.
Disk Drive Load Ramp
The load ramps were molded with an average Cpk capability of 3.3, which translates into almost zero defects per million parts or less, a tribute to the molding reproducibility of Ticona’s Vectra® liquid crystal polymer (LCP).

Document Printer

The HighPrint 4915 from Wincor Nixdorf is a compact, multifunctional, 24-needle printer specially designed for use in financial institutions.

Edge-card Connector

The Vectra® LCP delivers the stability and moldability needed to make a high quality connector, and readily fills the 0.025 to 0.03 inch (0.63 mm to 0.76 mm) walls of the 4.2 inch (9.5 cm) long housing.

Ferrule

Ticona has been working closely with systems and cable manufacturers to develop a number of special Fortron (PPS) grades tailored specifically to the requirements of fibre optic technology.

Film Guide Components
The film guide components made from Vectra are used by AGFA in so-called mini-labs. These film developing machines used to be manufactured individually.
Frame for Mobil Phone
Typical examples of the versatile use of these Ticona polymer grades can be seen in the latest equipment from the Swedish company Ericsson Mobile Communications.

Glow Plug

Because of the exceptional heat resistance requirements, AMP selected glass-fibre-reinforced Vectra as the material for its heater plug connectors.

Headset

The monitor used in creating virtual reality needs its carrier to have maximum freedom of movement. The unit therefore has to be small and lightweight.
Hemoclip
Pilling Weck developed the Hemoclip ligation system, a device consisting of a re-usable applicator handle and disposable clip cartridges.
High Density Interconnect
The drive for ever-higher data rates continues to push connector bandwidth, signal density and speed to new levels. This requires thinner walls, more precise pin locations and greater pin density, presenting quite a challenge to interconnect designers.
Hub of Interchangeable Hard Disk
The two hub pieces of the interchangeable hard disk are threaded on the inside. Both pieces are screwed together so that the disk of the data storage system is held firmly between them to prevent slippage.

Integrated Plug Insert Systems

US company Teradyne, based in Boston, has around 10,000 staff worldwide, and is one of the leading suppliers of automatic test systems, boards, modules and plug systems.

Lead-free Solderable Relay

Environmental concerns and new regulations require the use of lead-free solders in electronic equipment.

Membrane Switches

Rafi produces several million pushbutton casings from Vectra every year.
Metric Plug Connector
High-speed data systems have transmission rates in the gigahertz range. Connectors used in such applications are long and thin and have very high pin densities – as high as 475 contacts in 250 mm (10 in).
Microswitches
The French company ITT Industries in Dole, Cedex manufactures Microswitches with a daily production capacity of four to five million parts.
Miniature Switches
Miniature switches are used in all branches of electronics. These SMD pushbuttons are employed mainly in miniaturization and for the efficient manufacture of circuit boards and assemblies.
Multi Media Card Reader
After the Walkman and the portable CD player, it is now MP3 players which are meeting the mobile music needs of what is largely a youth market.

Needle Free Syringe

To achieve practically pain-free insulin injection, Medi-Ject of Minneapolis, Minnesota developed a needle-less injector that shoots the drug dose through the skin in a narrow high-pressure jet.

Night Vision Scope
A precision battery case liner for a customer’s infra-red (IR) night vision scope using Ticona’s Vectra® liquid crystal polymer (LCP) grade E130i to simplify product development by virtually eliminating mold shrinkage.

Power Converter Housing

Power General’s dual output DC/DC converters are found in equipment with distributed power architectures used in telecommunications and other electronics hardware, providing low voltage DC power for components in logic, control, and data circuits from a (typically) 48 volt DC source

Printer Module
The quality of modern document printers involves far more than printing performance. Financial institutions expect high user-friendliness and differentiated functions.

Skin Stretcher

The SureClose skin stretcher from MedTech Group replaces steel with Ticona’s Vectra® liquid crystal polymer (LCP), reducing both size and weight of the device.
Smart Card Reader
Smart Card readers have undergone progressive miniaturization with ever decreasing wall thicknesses, so that the excellent flow and mechanical properties of Ticona’s Vectra® liquid crystal polymer (LCP) make it a natural candidate for card reader manufacture.
Streamer Drive
Streaming tape drives are among the ways used to back up computer hard drives, especially where large amounts of data must be saved.
Surface-Mount Relay
Combining high temperature capability with high flow to fill thin-walled parts makes Vectra® Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) an excellent candidate for such small surface-mounted devices (SMD). As only low injection pressures are needed, filigree structures can be produced without displacing thin mold cores
Surgical Stapler
The compact surgical stapler employs A150, a 50% glass-reinforced grade of Ticona’s Vectra® liquid crystal polymer (LCP) resin. This grade provides very high strength, so that component dimensions could be reduced by 25%.

Transceiver Box

Transceiver boxes are an example of how Vectra can be combined with Fortron to provide innovative solutions in fibre optic technology.

Video Projector

Portable data projectors are fast becoming indispensable for business conferences, where business data is presented directly from a notebook computer to a large group.

Virtual Reality Headset
A virtual reality headset/visor display must be small enough not to inhibit easy movement and light enough not to burden the wearer.

Watch Baseplate

The baseplate Vectra® Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) carries all components, and though thin, is strong and stiff enough to provide structural stability for them.
